How to define and create a CTO job spec (Event from the vault May 2022)

Check out this video from the vault from an event we ran in May 2022.

Here is the original synopsis:

About this event

We will have a variety of guests from senior roles including consulting CTOs, startup CEOs members of the HR/People consulting industries and more. See below for details as they come through.

Hiring the right CTO is one of the most important steps a company has to make. Getting the right one can be the difference between a companies success or failure, getting the wrong one can set the company back years. But how do you know who you should hire? More importantly how can you design a tool for making that decision?

Team chemistry will always play a huge part in any executive level appointment, but before you get to that point you need to have a clear idea of what a CTO will do within the organisation so that you don’t let chemistry be the only factor in decision making.

Chemistry can often distract from other important underlying points. A job spec should, at it’s heart, be something that helps guide that decision making process.

Whether it is a startup CEO making their first technical hire or a venture backed company looking for the right leader to drive the scale up of the company. This is a matter of huge importance and not a step to be taken lightly.

In this event we are going to be covering some of the important points of consideration. It will be an open roundtable so the discussions will be free-flowing but we will be getting a variety of perspectives from those in attendance, Consulting CTOs, Tech Advisors, Startup CEOs, Chief People Officers and Talent Consultants who have experience in success and failure when it comes to hiring CTOs and senior tech leaders.

This is an online event starting at 1:00pm BST.

Why should I attend Learning and networking. By bringing people together around this one topic for a focussed session, we hope you will get a chance to learn what others in the space are doing. If you have any burning questions now is the time to ask them, but also to see what other people are wondering. We also hope that you will find other people that share your opinions and can make some connections with kindred spirits with whom you can build ongoing relationships outside of this event.

Who should attend: Experienced and aspiring CTOs, interims, advisors with an opinion on the matter and anyone who works in tech and has responsibility for developing and engaging staff.

Invited Guests - ZeShaan Shamsi - Director at The People Collective - Mark Bernitz - Chief Commercial Officer at DiskDrive - Gaby Weidlich - Global Business & Brand Strategist - Stuart Prestedge - Software Start Up Coach
